Timeline Block

The Timeline block presents events or milestones in sequence. Use it for a history, project phases, or another progression where a date or label helps orient the learner. For a procedure to follow, use the Process block.

A new Timeline block starts with three events. Each event has a title, a rich text description, and an optional Date or marker. The marker is plain text, so you can use a year, date, phase, or era without choosing a date format. You can add, reorder, or remove events; the block keeps at least one.

Choose Vertical or Horizontal orientation. Horizontal events follow one axis on wider screens and remain scrollable when they need more room. On phones and in print, they stack vertically.

Choose a Standard, Accent, or Minimal style. Standard shows the timeline axis and milestone nodes, Accent gives them more colour emphasis, and Minimal reduces decoration. The orientation and style are saved with the block.

Learners read events in source order. A Timeline block does not calculate time between events, ask for a response, or record completion or a score. Links in event descriptions remain usable.

You can also author this block in LESSON.md with ::: timeline.
