Media Library

The Media Library is your personal collection of uploaded files. Upload images, videos, audio, and documents to reuse across all your courses.

You can upload files to the media library directly from any block that supports media (Image, Video, Audio, Document). Files are stored in your account and available for reuse in any course.

Drag and drop files into the upload area, or click to browse your computer.

SVG files are not supported for direct upload.

Video and document uploads require a Standard or Pro plan.

Each plan includes a total storage allowance for uploaded media:

PlanStorage
Free500 MB
Standard5 GB
Pro15 GB

What counts toward storage: images, audio, video, documents, and custom fonts.

What does not count: course text and content, SCORM exports (generated on-demand), embedded external media (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.), and preview or share links.

Images are automatically resized to a maximum resolution of 1080p and lightly compressed on upload, with no visible quality loss. This helps you get the most out of your storage.

You can check your current storage usage in Settings > Storage, which shows a breakdown by media type.

When adding media to a block, you can choose from several sources:

  • Upload - upload a new file from your computer
  • Media Library - browse and select from previously uploaded files
  • Stock Media - search free stock image libraries (see Stock Media)
  • URL - paste a direct link to the file
  • AI Generation - generate images with AI (see AI Image Generation)

Files uploaded to one course are available in your media library for all courses. This means you can upload a logo or branded graphic once and insert it into any course without re-uploading.

When you export a course, all media files used in the course are included in the export package. This applies to SCORM, xAPI, cmi5, and HTML exports. Embedded videos from external providers (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) are referenced by URL and require an internet connection to play.

You can delete files from the media library when they are no longer needed. Slate checks for references across your courses before deletion so you can see what would be affected. See Managing Media for the full deletion workflow.
